Through Many Hands

The estate is believed to have originated in John Hume's 1,000-acre pre-emption in the late 18th century. However, its origins are unclear, as the tract of land it resides on has been comprised of numerous smaller tracts, of which it is difficult to attribute ownership. The estate transformed through each change of hands, so significantly that it was removed from the National Registry in 1989. Today, much of the original federal style architecture remains, as well as the additional 7,000 square feet added under the Greenburg ownership.
